Who we are
World Noon (the "Service") is operated by Jackson Leil Shishi LLC, a limited liability company organized in the United States ("we", "us", "our"). Jackson Leil Shishi LLC is the data controller for personal data processed through the Service.
No payments
World Noon is free to play. We do not accept payments or donations, and we do not collect payment card details.
What we collect and why
- Anonymous guest session. When you open the site, an anonymous session token is kept in your browser's storage and our server creates a random visitor ID for that session. This is how we recognize your return visits, keep your streak, and place your firefly on the map. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account. If your browser blocks storage, a reload starts a new guest.
- City and optional device location. Choose your city to set the calendar day for your streak. That city is locked until its next midnight; update it when traveling after the lock ends. City mode uses the city center and is approximate. If you choose device location, your browser asks permission. We calculate your countdown on your device. When you catch, coordinates are sent privately to our server to calculate and check solar noon, and are not stored in catch records. Our hosting providers process these requests and may retain request or error logs under their own retention policies. We have not yet confirmed whether those logs include coordinates or how long they are kept. We do not send coordinates when you select your city. Your chosen city, catch time and calendar day are stored. Public map dots remain city-level.
- Presence heartbeats. While your tab is open we periodically record a "last seen" timestamp so your firefly stays lit. Presence records are removed automatically: stale heartbeats within minutes, and in all cases within 24 hours.
- Streak and catch history. If you catch your local noon, we record the date so we can compute your current streak, your longest streak, and eligibility for streak rewards.
- Earned rewards. We record rewards earned through your streak so badges, glow and other earned effects work correctly.
What we do not collect
- No account, no password, no email address stored by us.
- No GPS coordinates stored in catch records and no IP-based geolocation. Optional device coordinates are processed privately at catch time.
- No tracking cookies, no advertising identifiers, no cross-site tracking.
- No payment card details. World Noon does not accept payments.
Legal bases (UK/EEA visitors)
- Contract performance - running the map, catches, streaks and earned rewards.
- Legitimate interests - keeping the Service secure, preventing abuse and enforcing catch and streak rules.
- Legal obligation - meeting legal requirements that apply to the Service.
Who we share data with
- Hosting and database providers — as subprocessors that store and serve the Service's data on our behalf.
- Professional advisers — legal and accounting professionals where necessary.
- Authorities — where we are required to by law.
We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for advertising.
International transfers
The Service is hosted on infrastructure that may process data in the United States and other countries. Where personal data of UK/EEA residents is transferred outside those regions, we and our subprocessors rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.
Retention
- Presence records are removed automatically: stale heartbeats within minutes, and in all cases within 24 hours of arrival.
- Streak, catch and earned-reward records are retained while the anonymous visitor ID remains active; clearing your browser storage effectively removes the link between you and those rows.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, port, or object to processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Security
We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures — including transport encryption, access controls, and database row-level security — to protect personal data. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Cookies and similar technologies
The Service uses only strictly necessary browser storage: a localStorage entry holding your anonymous visitor ID and your saved preferences (such as leaderboard opt-out). We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party trackers.
Optional noon reminders (time zone, lead time, pause, sound, desktop-alert choice) and whether you have seen the welcome card are stored only in your browser and are never sent to us. "Turn off and forget" deletes the reminder settings. A downloaded calendar file lives in your own calendar app.
Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes
We review this notice weekly and will update it as the Service evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
