Who we are
World Noon (the "Service") is operated by Jackson Leil Shishi LLC, a limited liability company organized in the United States ("we", "us", "our"). Jackson Leil Shishi LLC is the data controller for personal data processed through the Service.
Our role and Stripe's role
Payments (the one-time "glow" upgrade and any donation) are processed by Stripe, Inc. We never see, receive, or store your card details — Stripe's own checkout handles that directly, under Stripe's own privacy policy and security practices.
What we collect and why
- Anonymous visitor ID. A random UUID stored in your browser's localStorage so we can recognize your returning visits, keep your streak, and place your firefly on the map. It is not linked to your name, email, or account of any kind.
- Approximate location. We read the IANA timezone reported by your browser (e.g. "America/New_York") and map it to a representative city latitude/longitude from a bundled lookup table. We never request GPS and never store precise coordinates.
- Presence heartbeats. While your tab is open we periodically record a "last seen" timestamp so your firefly stays lit. Sessions are automatically wiped 24 hours after they first appear.
- Streak and catch history. If you catch your local noon, we record the date so we can compute your current streak, your longest streak, and eligibility for streak rewards.
- Donation display name. If you contribute through "Make the World Go Round", the display name you type and the amount you paid are stored and shown publicly in the donation ticker for 7 days.
- Glow purchases. If you buy a "Today's Glow" pass, we record the purchase against your anonymous visitor ID so the daily cap and your glow duration work correctly.
What we do not collect
- No account, no password, no email address stored by us.
- No GPS coordinates, IP-based geolocation, or street-level location.
- No tracking cookies, no advertising identifiers, no cross-site tracking.
- No payment card details — those go straight to Stripe.
Legal bases (UK/EEA visitors)
- Contract performance — running the map, streaks, glow purchases, and donations you asked for.
- Legitimate interests — keeping the Service secure, preventing abuse, enforcing daily caps, and displaying the public ticker.
- Legal obligation — retaining transaction records for tax and accounting purposes (handled primarily by Stripe).
Who we share data with
- Stripe — for payment processing, tax calculation and collection, invoicing, receipts, refunds, chargeback handling, and transaction-level support.
- Hosting and database providers — as subprocessors that store and serve the Service's data on our behalf.
- Professional advisers — legal and accounting professionals where necessary.
- Authorities — where we are required to by law.
We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for advertising.
International transfers
The Service is hosted on infrastructure that may process data in the United States and other countries. Where personal data of UK/EEA residents is transferred outside those regions, we and our subprocessors rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.
Retention
- Presence rows are deleted no later than 24 hours after they first appear.
- Donations shown in the public ticker roll off after 7 days.
- Streak, catch, and glow-purchase records are retained while the anonymous visitor ID remains active; clearing your browser storage effectively removes the link between you and those rows.
- Transaction and tax records held by Stripe are retained for the periods required by applicable law.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, port, or object to processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Because we do not collect email addresses or account credentials, the fastest way to exercise a right that relates to a specific purchase or donation is to reply to the payment receipt Stripe emails you at checkout — your reply will be routed to Jackson Leil Shishi LLC. UK/EEA residents also have the right to complain to their local supervisory authority.
Security
We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures — including transport encryption, access controls, and database row-level security — to protect personal data. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Cookies and similar technologies
The Service uses only strictly necessary browser storage: a localStorage entry holding your anonymous visitor ID and your saved preferences (alarm settings, leaderboard opt-out). We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party trackers.
Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes
We review this notice weekly and will update it as the Service evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
