Zegler shared that the substance used for the scene, a mixture of hot chocolate and glycerin, smelled amazing but was challenging to work with. The porta potty was set on its side, creating a bouncing effect during the scene. Zegler recalled her co-star Jaeden Martell covering her ear during filming to prevent water from getting in, adding a layer of authenticity to the final cut.
Writer and director Kyle Mooney shared his inspiration for Y2K, citing a YouTube video he came across where a friend watched a VHS tape survival guide for the Y2K phenomenon.
