In a harrowing case that has left a community devastated, two teenagers have been found guilty of the brutal murder of 16-year-old Brianna Ghey. The attack, described as “frenzied and ferocious,” took place in Linear Park in Culcheth, near Warrington, where Brianna was lured and stabbed 28 times in her head, neck, and back with a hunting knife. The shocking nature of the crime sent shockwaves across the country and brought to light the dark and disturbing world these young individuals inhabited.
During the trial at Manchester Crown Court, it was revealed that the two perpetrators, known only as girl X and boy Y, had a fixation on violence, torture, and death. Their twisted minds manifested in the form of a “kill list” which included Brianna, who was transgender, along with four other children. The court was presented with thousands of texts and WhatsApp messages exchanged between the teenagers, detailing their disturbing plans.
Both girl X and boy Y denied the charges of murder, insisting that their conversations were nothing more than “dark fantasies.” They attempted to shift the blame onto one another, with boy Y claiming girl X orchestrated the attack, while girl X accused boy Y of being responsible for wielding the knife. However, the prosecution successfully argued that both individuals were equally culpable for the crime. While boy Y physically carried out the stabbing, girl X actively planned and encouraged the murder.
After four hours and 40 minutes of deliberation, the jury at Manchester Crown Court returned a verdict of guilty for both girl X and boy Y. The judge, Mrs Justice Yip, expressed her gratitude to the jurors for their service in an “extremely difficult and, at times, distressing case,” and adjourned sentencing for further reports. She made it clear that a life sentence would be imposed, but the minimum amount of time they would serve before being considered for release would still need to be determined.

As the guilty verdicts were delivered, neither of the teenagers displayed any visible reaction. However, boy Y’s mother broke down in tears and sought solace from a friend as her son was led away. In boy Y’s bedroom, officers discovered the murder weapon and blood-soaked clothes, while a crumpled handwritten note labeled a “murder plan” was found in girl X’s bedroom. Cheshire Police Detective Chief Superintendent Mike Evans attributed their eventual capture to their own arrogance. He condemned their actions as evil, cruel, and vicious—a sentiment echoed by the shocked community.
