The Search for Missing British Teenager in Tenerife

The search for British teenager Jay Slater, who disappeared almost two weeks ago in Tenerife, is set to begin today. The Civil Guard has called for a “massive search” and has requested the assistance of volunteer associations and individual volunteers experienced in navigating challenging terrain. The search will commence at 9 am in the village of Masca, near the area where Mr. Slater was last seen. An urgent statement from the police emphasized the difficult nature of the terrain, with unevenness, ravines, paths, and roads. They are appealing for all available volunteers to aid in the coordinated search effort.

According to Sky’s North of England correspondent, Shingi Mararike, the search for Jay Slater represents a crucial moment for the Civil Guard as they make a final effort to make progress in the case. Mr. Slater, a 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, went missing after attempting to walk back to his accommodation when he missed a bus on Monday last week. His last known location was Papayago, where the New Rave Generation festival concluded.

After the festival ended, Mr. Slater got into a car with two men and traveled to a small Airbnb in Masca. A local cafe owner, Ofelia Medina Hernandez, reported seeing him at 8 am on 17 June as he tried to catch a bus back to Los Cristianos. Unfortunately, he was walking in the wrong direction, and his whereabouts remained unknown after that point.

Last Communication

One of Mr. Slater’s friends, Brad Hargreaves, shared details of his last video call with the teenager on ITV’s This Morning. During the call, Mr. Hargreaves witnessed Mr. Slater’s feet sliding on rocks, indicating that he was not on a road. Mr. Slater then descended a “little drop” during the call, prompting concern from his friend. Despite the distance between them, Mr. Hargreaves advised Mr. Slater to take a taxi due to the challenging terrain.

Search teams led by the Civil Guard have utilized helicopters, drones, and search dogs to cover the mountainous regions of Tenerife in an extensive manhunt. Despite their efforts, Jay Slater has yet to be located. The search is a race against time in the harsh terrain of Tenerife, where every minute counts in the mission to find the missing teenager.

The search for Jay Slater in Tenerife is a challenging and urgent operation that requires the collaboration of volunteers and experienced individuals. As the search intensifies, the hope of finding him safe and sound remains the top priority for all involved in the effort. Only time will tell if the combined efforts will lead to the successful discovery of the missing teenager.
