The legendary Prince of Persia is back yet again, this time in a new iteration titled The Rogue Prince of Persia. This new 2D action-platforming rogue-lite title, developed by Evil Empire and published by Ubisoft, promises to bring back the iconic dual-blade wielding prince in a whole new adventure. Set in a fictional Ctesiphon, the capital city of the Persian Empire, players will once again take control of the prince as he faces off against a possessed army of Huns.
Unlike its predecessor, The Lost Crown, The Rogue Prince of Persia introduces a new game mechanic where players will have the ability to resurrect upon death using a magical bola. This rogue-lite feature will challenge players to continuously upgrade and upskill their abilities in order to progress through the game. With each attempt, players will explore new biomes, discover new weapons, and upgrade their gear to ultimately save the city from the invading army.
The gameplay trailer showcases the prince’s acrobatic skills as he wall runs, spin jumps, and slides through deadly obstacles in the platforming sections. Players will navigate through procedurally generated levels inspired by Persian architecture, engaging in combat with Huns wielding dark shamanic magic and corrupted creatures. The prince will have a variety of weapons at his disposal, including twin daggers, spears, broad swords, and axes, as well as shields, bows, and grappling hooks as secondary weapons.
Evil Empire, the team behind the critically acclaimed Dead Cells, are no strangers to the rogue-lite genre. Their collaboration with Ubisoft to bring a fresh take on the Prince of Persia series is highly anticipated. The studio’s expertise in creating engaging gameplay experiences bodes well for The Rogue Prince of Persia, promising an exciting adventure for players.
After the successful release of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown earlier this year, fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the prince’s story. The Rogue Prince of Persia is set to release in Early Access on Steam on May 14, with plans for a release on other platforms in the near future.
