Google is rumored to be launching a new weather app for its Pixel devices, with potential features powered by artificial intelligence. This app is already available for download unofficially as an APK and can be sideloaded onto current Pixel smartphones.
The Pixel Weather app is reported to include various elements typically found in weather apps, such as current conditions, feels like temperature, UV index, visibility, wind speed, humidity, sunrise/sunset times, atmospheric pressure, and high/low temperatures. Additionally, it offers hourly and 10-day forecasts through easy-to-use carousels. The app’s user interface follows Google’s Material You design language, providing a visually appealing experience for users.
An APK teardown revealed references to an AI-powered feature called AI Weather Summaries, which could allow users to generate weather summaries for specific time periods and locations. This suggests a more personalized and intelligent approach to weather updates. Alongside this feature, precipitation notifications and weather forecasts were also discovered, adding to the app’s functionality.
While Google intended to debut the Weather app with the Pixel 9 series, users have already managed to install it on older Pixel devices and other Android smartphones. However, since the app is not officially released, there may be issues with crashes or performance, as seen with some users changing temperature units causing the app to freeze.
Google’s new Weather app for Pixel devices has the potential to revolutionize how users interact with weather forecasts. By incorporating AI-powered features and a user-friendly interface, it promises a more personalized and informative experience. As the app continues to be developed and improved, users can look forward to a seamless and intuitive weather monitoring tool on their devices.
