Kevin Brophy, a talented actor known for his work in television series such as Lucan and films like Hell Night and The Long Riders, passed away on May 11 at the age of 70. Despite battling stage 4 cancer for a decade, he ultimately succumbed to the illness at his family home in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Brophy’s family moved to the San Fernando Valley before he relocated to Del Mar, California for high school. Following his graduation from the California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) in Valencia, Brophy landed the lead role in the television series Lucan (1977-1978).
In addition to his work on Lucan, Brophy also appeared in notable films such as The Long Riders (1980) and the horror classic Hell Night (1981). Throughout his career, he made guest appearances in various motion pictures and television series, including The Love Boat, M*A*S*H, Growing Pains, The Hardy Boys Mysteries, and Hart to Hart. Brophy later transitioned into the hospitality industry, working at the Hotel Bel-Air and the Luxe Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Kevin Brophy is survived by his wife, Amy Prettyman Brophy, his mother Carol, his brother John (Wendy), his children Kelly, Michael (Lindsey), Megan, Ryan, as well as his grandchildren Jarrah and Saylor. A Celebration of Life in honor of Brophy will take place on Saturday, June 29, at 11 AM at St. Cyril’s Church in Encino, California. His passing marks the end of a remarkable career in the entertainment industry and leaves behind a lasting legacy that will be remembered by fans and loved ones alike.
