However, despite the hype, major titles like Resident Evil, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Death Stranding have failed to capture the interest of iPhone users. A recent report indicates that these console games have not been successful commercially on iOS platforms. The number of users willing to pay full price to unlock these games beyond the initial free playable section has been disappointingly low.

According to the analysis conducted by mobilegamer.biz, the number of users who paid the full price to unlock Assassin’s Creed Mirage on the iPhone 15 Pro was under 3,000. This figure is quite small compared to free-to-play games on mobile platforms, which often see millions of downloads. Despite being initially offered at a 50 percent discount on the App Store, these triple-A console games have struggled to attract a significant user base willing to pay for access to the full game.

The revenue generated by these console games on iPhone devices paints a grim picture of their commercial success. For instance, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which was downloaded approximately 1,23,000 times from the App Store, only managed to bring in a gross revenue of $138,000. Similarly, Resident Evil 4 and Death Stranding have failed to meet revenue expectations, with a small percentage of users paying to unlock the full game. Despite their popularity on other platforms, these console titles have not been able to replicate the same success on Apple devices.

The pricing strategy for these triple-A console games on iPhone may be a contributing factor to their lackluster sales performance. While some titles were initially offered at a 50 percent discount, the high price point of up to Rs. 3,999 in India may have deterred potential buyers. Moreover, the availability of free-to-play games with a larger user base and more engaging gameplay may have overshadowed these console titles, making it challenging for them to attract paying customers.

Although the revenue estimates based on Appfigures data suggest minimal success for these console games on iPhone, a separate set of estimates from data firm Appmagic presents a slightly more optimistic view. According to these estimates, games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Resident Evil 4 have generated higher revenue and attracted a larger user base than initially reported. However, the discrepancy between the two sets of data indicates a lack of transparency in accurately assessing the commercial performance of these console games on iPhone.

The underwhelming reception and commercial failure of triple-A console games on iPhone raise questions about their viability and appeal to the mobile gaming audience. Despite the advanced hardware capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro, these games have struggled to gain traction among users who are accustomed to free-to-play titles with a larger player base. Moving forward, developers and publishers may need to reconsider their pricing strategies and marketing approaches to successfully penetrate the mobile gaming market and compete with established free-to-play games.
