The Future of Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise

The Future of Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise

After seven years since the release of the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie, fans have been eagerly awaiting news about any potential sequels. However, the path ahead for the franchise remains unclear. In a recent interview with producer Jerry Bruckheimer, ComicBook.com discussed the future of some of his famous franchises, including Pirates of the Caribbean.

According to Bruckheimer, the next installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean series will be a reboot. This decision was made to streamline the production process and eliminate the need to wait for specific actors to become available. Unlike with Top Gun, where the iconic actor Tom Cruise’s schedule plays a significant role in the timing of the sequel, a reboot allows for more flexibility in casting decisions.

The Last of Us creator Craig Mazin collaborated with original Pirates of the Caribbean screenwriter Ted Elliot on a new story for the franchise. Their script, which was described as “weird” by Mazin, received positive feedback from Disney. However, the project hit a roadblock due to industry strikes last year, causing delays in the production timeline.

Despite their initial doubts, Mazin and Elliot were surprised by Disney’s enthusiasm for their unique script. The duo initially believed that the script was too unconventional for the studio’s liking, but Disney’s approval proved otherwise. Unfortunately, the progress was halted by external factors, and everyone involved is currently in a holding pattern.

The future of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise remains uncertain, with a reboot in the works and a promising script awaiting production. Fans can only hope that the industry challenges are resolved soon, allowing for the continuation of the beloved series.
