Jason Statham, known for his roles in the Fast & Furious franchise, has been announced as the leading actor in an upcoming action-thriller directed by Baltasar Kormákur. This new film, currently untitled, will follow Statham’s character, Mason, who lives in isolation on a remote Scottish island. When he rescues a young girl from the ocean during a storm, his peaceful life is disrupted by a violent attack that forces him to confront his past. The film is set to commence principal photography in November in the UK and Iceland.
The script for the action-thriller comes from Ward Parry, with Statham producing through Punch Palace Productions, Kormákur for RVK Studios, and John Friedberg for Black Bear. Jon Berg and Greg Silverman from Stampede Ventures are also producers on the project. Black Bear is set to introduce the film to buyers at the Cannes market this week and is co-representing U.S. rights alongside Range Select.

Following his recent success in The Beekeeper, directed by David Ayer, which grossed $150M theatrically, Statham is moving on to film Levon’s Trade with Ayer and Mutiny with Jean-Francois Richet for Mad River. Kormákur, a highly acclaimed filmmaker known for movies such as 2 Guns and Everest, will release Touch this summer for Focus Features.
Black Bear Productions, the company behind the new action-thriller, is gearing up for a busy Cannes market with other projects such as a Christy Martin film, a thriller by Gregg Araki starring Olivia Wilde, and a high-budget thriller starring Mahershala Ali and Tom Hardy. John Friedberg of Black Bear expressed excitement for the collaboration between Statham and Kormákur, stating that the combination of Statham’s action skills and Kormákur’s filmmaking style will bring the new action franchise to life.
