The upcoming boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul has generated a lot of excitement, with soaring ticket prices and strong interest from bettors. Scheduled to take place on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and streamed on Netflix, this highly anticipated bout is expected to be the most heavily bet on boxing match of the year. Fans are eagerly anticipating seeing the former heavyweight champion Tyson, who will be 58 years old at the time of the fight, take on the 27-year old social media influencer turned boxer Paul.
The fight will be an 8-round professional bout, with each round lasting two minutes. While Tyson last fought in an exhibition match in 2020, his last professional fight dates all the way back to 2005. In addition to Tyson and Paul, the event will also showcase a match between lightweight world champion Katie Taylor and boxing trailblazer and unified featherweight champion Amanda Serrano. Both Taylor and Serrano previously headlined the first ever sold out women’s boxing event at Madison Square Garden.
Most Valuable Promotions, the company co-owned by Paul that is organizing the event, has reported that over 121,000 fans have signed up for presale access to purchase tickets for the fight. Official ticket sales will commence next Thursday, allowing eager fans to secure a spot at the event. The company is also offering a one-of-a-kind $2 million VIP package, which includes exclusive perks such as ringside seats, first-row floor seats, a pre-fight locker room photo opportunity with both Paul and Tyson, gloves signed by the fighters, and luxury penthouse accommodations at the fighters’ hotel.
In addition to ticket sales, the fight has also captured the interest of bettors. BetMGM has already started taking bets on the bout, with odds currently favoring Jake Paul (-145). Interestingly, despite being the underdog, 70% of the bets are in favor of Tyson. With its potential appeal to a wide range of audiences, including Tyson supporters, Jake Paul critics, and casual sports fans, the match is expected to draw significant betting activity and become the most bet on boxing match of the year.
While financial terms of the fight and Netflix’s stake in the event have not been disclosed, it is known that Netflix will be offering the bout to all subscribers at no additional cost as part of its sports programming. Tyson and Paul are anticipated to earn eight-figure paychecks from the fight, showcasing the magnitude of this event. Most Valuable Promotions is optimistic that the match will become one of the most viewed streaming events in U.S. sports history, highlighting their efforts to revitalize interest in boxing on a grand scale.
