In Sunday’s NFC wild-card game against the Dallas Cowboys, the Green Bay Packers wasted no time in asserting their dominance. A heavy dose of Aaron Jones propelled them to the first score of the game. Jones was far from finished after his first touchdown. Thanks to an interception by Jaire Alexander, the Packers had a short field to work with, and Jones took full advantage. He found the end zone once again, this time from a yard out, extending the Packers’ lead to a commanding 14-0 just 45 seconds into the second quarter. Jones’ ability to consistently find the end zone against the Cowboys has become a trend, as this marked his seventh career touchdown in just four games against them.
The Packers’ dominance was not limited to the ground game. Quarterback Jordan Love showcased his ability on third down by connecting with Dontayvion Wicks for a 20-yard touchdown pass. This play exemplified Love’s prowess in high-pressure situations, as he threw 14 touchdown passes on third down during the regular season, just one behind the league leader, Patrick Mahomes. The touchdown extended the Packers’ lead to a commanding 20-0 with 3:23 remaining in the first half.
To add insult to injury, Packers safety Darnell Savage intercepted Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and returned it for a 64-yard pick-six touchdown. This outstanding defensive play further solidified the Packers’ dominance, as it brought the score to a staggering 27-0 with only 1:50 left in the first half. At this point in the game, the Packers’ interception return yards (64) surpassed Prescott’s passing yards (61), highlighting the absolute control the Packers had over the Cowboys.
