Thailand’s Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, recently announced that the government is contemplating the introduction of a casino bill that could have significant implications for the country. While casinos are currently prohibited in Thailand, the only forms of legal gambling permitted are state-controlled horse races and the lottery.

While the precise location of this complex was not revealed, Srettha indicated that the gambling floor would be a small portion of the overall space, making up only 3% to 10% of the total area. The focus of the project seems to be on creating a multifaceted entertainment destination rather than solely on gambling activities.

In order for the casino bill to materialize, the Thai Cabinet would need to draft a law and present it to parliament for further discussion and approval. Srettha emphasized that the government’s goal is not to promote gambling but to regulate and supervise it effectively. The potential benefits of legalizing casinos, such as job creation and increased tax revenue, are compelling reasons for Thailand to consider this significant policy shift.
