Circle Collective, the arthouse distribution label of Utopia, has recently acquired the U.S. rights for the compelling dark comedy “With Love and a Major Organ.” The film, which made its debut in the experimental Visions program at SXSW last year, has created quite a buzz in the film festival circuit. Directed by Kim Albright and written by Julia Lederer, the screenplay is an adaptation of Lederer’s play of the same name.
“With Love and a Major Organ” stars Anna Maguire, known for her roles in “Violation,” “The Hummingbird Project,” and “Saving Private Ryan,” as Anabel, a sensitive and empathetic young woman living in an alternate universe. In this strange world, self-care is manifested through the complete suppression of emotions, and hearts can be readily removed. Anabel, after a significant encounter with a stranger named George (played by Hamza Haq), takes a leap of faith and gives him her heart. However, she is not prepared for the unexpected outcome when he absconds with it.
The film boasts a talented cast, including Veena Sood, Donna Benedicto, and Arghavan Jenati, alongside Maguire and Haq. With Madeleine Davis as the producer and Lori Lozinski and Carol Whiteman as executive producers, “With Love and a Major Organ” is a captivating independent production crafted by an exceptional filmmaking team.
