Google’s Gemini AI Chatbot on Android: New Music Feature on the Horizon

Google’s Gemini AI Chatbot on Android: New Music Feature on the Horizon

Google made a significant move earlier this year by integrating its native artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Gemini, into the Android operating system. This addition allowed users to opt for Gemini as their default voice assistant on their smartphones, instead of Google Assistant. While this was a positive development, there were some limitations to using Gemini, such as the inability to set alarms, add reminders, or launch apps.

A recent report has uncovered a potential new feature for Gemini that could enhance its functionality – the ability to play music with a simple voice command. The discovery was made within the settings options of the Gemini app for Android. A screenshot shared in the report revealed a new Music option within Gemini Settings, along with a sub-option to select the preferred music services. However, it was noted that the feature is not yet operational, indicating that it may be introduced in a future update.

While details about how the music feature will work remain uncertain, there are speculations based on Google Assistant’s capabilities. It is expected that Gemini will be able to play music from popular music streaming services like Spotify or YouTube Music upon receiving voice commands. Additionally, there is a possibility that Gemini could offer a song identification function, allowing users to identify songs by asking the AI to listen to music playing or someone humming and then play it through the music streaming app.

Interestingly, earlier reports suggested that Google was exploring the integration of Gemini into Google Assistant-powered headphones. This integration would enable wearable devices to utilize Gemini as the voice assistant and seamlessly connect with smartphones that have Gemini as the default assistant. Despite having Gemini on smartphones, current wearable devices still rely on Google Assistant when activated.

The potential addition of a music feature to Google’s Gemini AI chatbot signifies the tech giant’s continuous efforts to enhance user experience and functionality. As AI technology continues to advance, we can expect further developments and improvements in the capabilities of virtual assistants like Gemini. While the exact timeline for the rollout of this new feature remains unclear, it is undoubtedly a step towards a more personalized and integrated AI experience for users across various devices and platforms.
