The upcoming Google Pixel 9 series, set for launch on August 13, is rumored to feature an upgrade in the fingerprint scanner department. Reports suggest that the smartphones will come equipped with an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, specifically Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic Gen 2 (QFS4008). This sensor is said to be the same one used in the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, offering faster and more accurate biometric authentication compared to optical sensors. Additionally, ultrasonic sensors are known to work effectively even when users’ fingers are wet or slightly dusty, without needing a part of the display to light up for recognition.
Apart from the base and Pro models, the Google Pixel 9 series is likely to include a Pixel 9 Pro XL variant. While all models are expected to feature ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanners, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is rumored to come with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor incorporated into the power button. This variation in sensor placement indicates that Google is experimenting with different biometric authentication technologies across its lineup, catering to diverse user preferences.
In terms of hardware, the Google Pixel 9 series phones are anticipated to be powered by Tensor G4 SoCs and ship with the latest Android 15 operating system. The base Pixel 9 model may sport a 6.24-inch AMOLED screen, offering an immersive viewing experience for users. On the other hand, the Pro and XL variants are rumored to feature larger displays, with screen sizes of 6.34-inch and 6.73-inch AMOLED panels, respectively. These screen size differentials suggest that Google is aiming to cater to users with varied preferences for smartphone display sizes.
Recently, leaked images of the vanilla Google Pixel 9 have surfaced, showcasing a pink color option with a distinctive pill-shaped rear camera module. This leak hints at Google’s venture into vibrant color choices for its upcoming lineup, straying away from traditional black, white, and silver finishes. The leaked images also offer a glimpse into the design aesthetics of the Pixel 9 series, showcasing a balance of sophistication and modernity in the smartphone’s appearance.
The Google Pixel 9 series is shaping up to be a promising lineup with rumored upgrades in fingerprint scanning technology, diverse model variants, impressive hardware specifications, and eye-catching design elements. As the launch date approaches, anticipation is running high among tech enthusiasts eager to get their hands on Google’s latest offerings.
