After spending Thursday and Friday in a New York courtroom facing charges of falsifying business records in a political hush money case, former President Donald Trump will make his way back to his ritzy private club in Florida. Despite the legal challenges he is currently facing, Trump is set to headline the Republican National Committee’s spring donor retreat, where he will have the opportunity to mingle with wealthy Republican donors and potential running mates.
The list of “Special Guests” expected at the retreat in Florida includes several names that are reportedly on Trump’s shortlist for potential vice presidential candidates. Among them are Republican Senators Marco Rubio, J.D. Vance, and Tim Scott, as well as North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem. Also expected is New York Representative Elise Stefanik, who has been a staunch defender of Trump in Congress. All of these individuals are reportedly under consideration to be Trump’s running mate in the upcoming election.
While speculation is rife about who Trump will choose as his running mate, the former president has indicated that he will not make a final decision until closer to the Republican National Convention, which is set to begin on July 15 in Milwaukee. Trump mentioned in an interview that the decision will be made “closer to Wisconsin time,” suggesting that it is still too early to reveal his choice.
The weekend retreat in Florida will take place at both the Four Seasons Hotel in Palm Beach and Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club. The festivities will kick off with a reception at the Four Seasons on Friday evening, featuring notable figures such as House Speaker Mike Johnson, Representative Elise Stefanik, and Lara Trump, who is married to Trump’s son, Eric. The dinner that follows will include speeches from Senator Marco Rubio and Senator Tim Scott. The following day, guests will gather at Mar-a-Lago for lunch, where Trump will address the attendees along with other prominent figures.
The dinner on Saturday evening at the Four Seasons will be headlined by J.D. Vance and will include speeches from high-profile Republican Senate candidates such as Indiana Representative Jim Banks, Dave McCormick, and Bernie Moreno. The event will provide an opportunity for these candidates to connect with potential donors and garner support for their respective campaigns.
While it has not been confirmed whether Trump will conduct interviews with potential running mates during the event, it is not hard to imagine that discussions may take place behind closed doors. Given the importance of the vice presidential selection, it is likely that some of the rumored candidates will take the opportunity to meet with Trump personally.
Following the weekend in Florida, Trump is expected to return to court in New York on Monday morning for the continuation of his trial.
