Former Manchester United Footballer Nicky Butt Banned From Driving After Crash

Former Manchester United footballer Nicky Butt has been banned from driving for 12 months after breaking a motorcyclist’s leg in a crash. The incident occurred when Butt was driving his Land Rover Defender and pulled out in front of a Honda motorbike following a “momentary lapse of concentration”. The motorcyclist, Adam Fielding, suffered a broken leg and other injuries as a result of the collision, which happened on October 17, 2022.

In court, Butt admitted causing serious injury by careless driving and expressed deep remorse for the accident. He stated, “I could not be more sorry” and acknowledged the impact of the crash on Mr. Fielding and his family. Butt’s lawyer read out a letter from the former footballer to the victim, where Butt expressed his regret and wished to move past the accident.

At Blackburn Magistrates Court, Butt was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, pay a government surcharge of £140, and cover £85 in costs. The District Judge, Alex Preston, emphasized the seriousness of the error made by Butt and the need for drivers to be cautious, particularly at junctions. Despite Butt’s clean record and previous voluntary work, the judge deemed a community order appropriate in this case.

Nicky Butt was part of Manchester United’s renowned Class of 92, along with David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and the Neville brothers. During his time at United, Butt played a key role in the team’s success, contributing to victories in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League. After leaving the club in 2004, he went on to co-own Salford City FC with some of his former teammates.

The incident involving Nicky Butt serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the potential consequences of careless driving. Despite his remorse and previous contributions to the community, Butt faced legal repercussions for his actions. In the aftermath of this incident, it is essential for all drivers to remain vigilant and prioritize safety on the roads.
