Disney recently announced that starting mid-October, the prices of its streaming services, including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, will see a $1 to $2 increase per month. This price hike will also affect the most expensive plans for Hulu, especially those that include live TV, which will cost consumers an additional $6 per month. As a result, Disney+ basic and premium plans will be priced at $9.99 and $15.99, respectively. Hulu will now cost $9.99 monthly for the ad-supported version, while the ad-free version will be priced at $18.99 per month. ESPN+ subscriptions, which come with ads, will also see an increase to $11.99 per month.
In an effort to provide customers with more options and value, Disney has been encouraging subscribers to take advantage of bundle offerings. Customers have the option to choose between bundles that include Hulu and Disney+, or a combination of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. The existing bundle of Disney+ and Hulu with ads will also see a price increase of $1, bringing the monthly cost to $10.99. However, the bundle without ads will remain at its current rate of $19.99 per month. Additionally, Disney has teamed up with Warner Bros. Discovery to offer a new bundle that includes Disney+, Hulu, and Max for $16.99 with ads, and $29.99 for a commercial-free experience, representing a significant savings compared to purchasing the services separately.
Aside from the price increases, Disney is striving to provide additional value to its subscribers. It plans to introduce ABC News Live and curated playlists with preschool content for all subscribers starting September 4th. Premium subscribers will also have access to four more curated playlists as part of their subscription. Alisa Bowen, president of the streaming platform, emphasized that the new playlists are part of Disney’s ongoing efforts to enhance the subscriber experience and offer the best value to its customers.
Overall, these price increases and additional content offerings from Disney reflect the company’s strategy to continue growing its streaming services while providing customers with more value and flexibility in their subscription options. As the streaming landscape continues to evolve, Disney is positioning itself to stay competitive and meet the demands of its subscribers.
