Debbie mentioned that the police have expressed concerns about the impact of media attention on their investigation, but she believes that they are ramping up their efforts to locate her son. It was reported that someone unauthorized accessed Jay’s Instagram account, raising further alarms about his whereabouts.
In response to the distressing situation, Rachel Louise Harg took initiative by creating a GoFundMe page to raise funds for search operations and established a Facebook page to facilitate the search for Jay. The community rallied behind the cause, with donations exceeding £26,000 out of the targeted £30,000 by Saturday evening. Rachel condemned the unethical act of hacking into the social media accounts of Jay’s family, describing the culprits as “sick in the head.”
Despite calls for assistance from British authorities, Spanish police have declined an offer from Lancashire Constabulary citing jurisdictional limitations. While Lancashire Constabulary offered to provide additional resources if needed, Spanish police indicated that they are content with their current capabilities. Debbie Duncan highlighted the language barrier as a hindrance to the search operation, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in such cases.
Originating from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, Jay Slater’s family continues to receive support from specialist officers in their hometown. The young apprentice bricklayer had been vacationing in Tenerife with friends, attending the NRG music festival before his disappearance. The last contact Jay had was with his friend Lucy Law, where he disclosed being lost, in need of water, and having a nearly depleted phone battery while embarking on an extensive journey back home.
