The Samsung Galaxy S21 series is about to receive the highly anticipated One UI 6.1 update, which will also roll out to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 foldable phones. While newer models from Samsung have been enjoying up to 10 AI-powered features with the One UI 6.1 update, these three handsets will only be getting two new Galaxy AI features.
One of the new AI features included in the update is Circle to Search. This feature allows users to long-press the navigation pill to bring up an overlay that enables them to draw around, scribble, or highlight a part of the screen for a visual lookup. The best part is that users can perform this action without leaving the app they are currently using.
Chat Assist Functionality
Another exciting AI feature making its way to the Samsung Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 is Chat Assist. This feature is specifically designed to assist users in composing texts in different languages by seamlessly translating incoming and outgoing messages. What sets Chat Assist apart is its compatibility with third-party apps, eliminating the need for users to switch to a translation app while messaging another user. Additionally, Chat Assist also offers users the ability to change the tone of their messages.
Samsung has been vocal about providing Galaxy AI features “for free until the end of 2025,” a promise reiterated in the latest announcement. This commitment ensures that users of the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 can enjoy the new AI features without any additional cost until the specified timeframe.
Limitations for Older Handsets
Despite the exciting additions to the Galaxy S21 series and the foldable phones, it is important to note that these handsets will not receive the full suite of Galaxy AI functionality available on newer Samsung models. This decision confirms that certain advanced AI features will not be integrated into the older devices, possibly due to hardware limitations or other constraints.
