Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series, which was launched earlier this year, featured a combination of Snapdragon and in-house Exynos chipsets. There were rumors circulating that Samsung would fully transition to using Exynos SoCs for the Galaxy S25 lineup. However, a new report has emerged, contradicting these claims. According to a report by DigiTimes Asia, Samsung will continue its practice of utilizing both Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Exynos 2500 chipsets for its flagship Galaxy S series smartphones.
The decision to continue using a mix of Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets for the Galaxy S25 series comes as a surprise to many. While the report does not specify which specific models in the lineup will run on Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, it is expected that the top-of-the-line Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature the Qualcomm chipset in all markets. Other models in the series, such as the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+, may feature either the Exynos 2500 chipset or Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, depending on the region where they are sold.
It is worth noting that Samsung is actively working on closing the performance gap between Qualcomm and Exynos chipsets. There have been claims suggesting that the Exynos 2500 processor outperforms the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC in terms of both CPU and GPU performance. However, these claims have not been substantiated with performance metrics or benchmark numbers. The Exynos 2500 chipset is said to comprise a Cortex-X5 core clocked at 3.2GHz or higher, three Cortex-A730 cores at up to 2.5GHz, and additional Cortex-A520 cores with undisclosed clock speeds.
Earlier reports had suggested that the Galaxy S25 series would run entirely on Samsung’s Exynos chipset. On the other hand, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset is expected to launch with a custom Oryon CPU at the Snapdragon Summit in October. This chipset is anticipated to power flagship Android phones from various manufacturers, including Samsung’s Galaxy S25, Xiaomi 15 series, and Asus Zenfone 11.
Samsung’s decision to continue using both Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets in its Galaxy S25 series showcases the company’s commitment to providing a diverse range of offerings to its customers. By leveraging the strengths of both Qualcomm and its in-house Exynos chipsets, Samsung aims to cater to a wider audience with varying preferences and requirements.
