Justin Fields Explains Decision to Unfollow Chicago Bears on Instagram

Quarterback Justin Fields recently made headlines for his decision to unfollow the Chicago Bears on Instagram. However, Fields clarified that this move was simply a way for him to take a break from social media during the offseason. In an appearance on the “St. Brown Brothers” podcast, Fields emphasized that his decision to unfollow the Bears and the NFL was not indicative of any ill will towards the team.

Fields expressed his frustration with the intense speculation and scrutiny surrounding his future with the Bears. He explained, “Why do people take social media so serious? I still mess with the Bears, this and that. I’m just trying to take a little break. I unfollowed the Bears and the NFL. I’m not just trying to have football on my timeline.”

The Chicago Bears currently hold the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft, presenting them with a significant decision regarding their quarterback situation. Fields, who just completed his third season with the team, has been at the center of much debate over whether the Bears should continue to build around him or opt for a new rookie quarterback, potentially USC’s Caleb Williams.

Bears general manager Ryan Poles acknowledged the complexity of the situation, stating, “I did think Justin got better. I think he can lead this team. But at the same time, there’s a unique situation where I have to look, and our staff has to look, at everything, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Fields reiterated his desire to remain with the Chicago Bears. When asked if he wants to stay in Chicago by Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, Fields responded positively, saying, “Yeah, of course. Of course I want to stay. I can’t see myself playing in another place. But if it was up to me, I would want to stay in Chicago.”

Fields expressed his affection for the city of Chicago, its fans, and the overall environment. However, he acknowledged that ultimately, the decision is out of his hands and that he is eager for some resolution regarding his status with the team.

As a Georgia native, Fields was also asked about the possibility of playing for the Atlanta Falcons, a team facing its own quarterback decision. While Fields acknowledged the appeal of returning home to Atlanta, he highlighted the challenges that may come with playing for the Falcons.

Fields pointed out the talent on the Falcons roster, mentioning players like Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, and Drake London. Despite the potential allure of playing for his hometown team, Fields emphasized the distractions that may come with being close to home during the season.

Justin Fields’ decision to unfollow the Chicago Bears on Instagram is not a reflection of his commitment to the team. Fields desires clarity and resolution regarding his future in the NFL, but ultimately understands that the decision lies with the Bears organization. As the offseason progresses, all eyes will be on Chicago as they navigate their quarterback situation and determine the best path forward for the franchise.
