Ford Motor has announced that it will be modifying the pricing of its 2024 F-150 Lightning models. The Detroit-based automaker confirmed that while some models will see an increase in price, the costs of its most expensive models will be reduced. These changes come as the company aims to find the balance between consumer demand and profitability in the electric vehicle (EV) market.
The starting prices for the 2024 F-150 Lightning pickups will now range from $54,995 for the entry-level Pro model to $92,995 for the Platinum Black trim. This is a change from the 2023 models, which originally started at prices between $49,995 and $97,995. Notably, the prices of the Platinum and Platinum Black models have been lowered by $5,000 and $7,000, respectively. These particular models offer additional technologies and luxury amenities.
Ford’s pricing adjustments are a response to the slower-than-expected consumer demand for electric vehicles. The company, like other EV manufacturers, is constantly monitoring market conditions and making changes accordingly. The price modifications for the F-150 Lightning and the all-electric Mustang Mach-E are a testament to Ford’s commitment to finding the right balance between consumer demand and raw material costs.
In addition to price adjustments, Ford recently announced a significant reduction in planned production of the F-150 Lightning for this year. The company had initially increased plant capacity for the EV in 2023 but has now decided to cut production roughly in half. Despite the adjustments, the F-150 Lightning remains America’s best-selling electric pickup truck. Ford has witnessed a steady increase in sales throughout 2023, with a monthly record of approximately 4,400 units sold in November alone. From January to November, the company sold a total of 20,365 trucks, marking a 54% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. These figures indicate a growing consumer interest in electric pickups.
It’s important to note that the price changes announced by Ford do not include the mandatory $2,095 destination fee or any federal or local incentives for purchasing an all-electric vehicle. Additionally, the F-150 Lightning qualifies for a $7,500 federal tax credit, which is a significant advantage in comparison to other EVs. Ford’s adherence to the stringent requirements for assembly and materials for the vehicles and batteries ensures that the F-150 Lightning maintains this tax credit.
