Titled “Nyad”, the film tells the inspiring story of Olympic champion swimmer Diana Nyad as she attempts a swim traversing the distances between Florida and Cuba at the age of 60. This remarkable feat comes decades after her first failed attempt when she was in her prime as a champion. Starring Annette Bening in the title role and Jodie Foster as her coach and friend Bonnie, “Nyad” has already received high acclaim since its premiere at Telluride over Labor Day weekend, generating significant Oscar buzz.
